Doreen and her sister Violet were evacuated to Newmarket Suffolk during the war where they were still able to see each other as they went to the same school.  Doreen always spoke fondly of her stay there and kept in touch with the family for many years.  Having spent those few years in the country it gave her the love of being in the country later in life.  She would always talk fondly of the time she was evacuated.
